Q: 1. How are Artificial products or Artificial tree measured?
Answer:
All products. When we say that an artificial plant is 36” High or tall, we
are measuring from the bottom of the items thick
base stem to the very tip of the longest leaf
at the tip before it is shaped. So if a 36" high floor plant is stated as
36" high before you shape the floor plant. You will lose approximately
3" to 5" in height after shaping of the top
leaf. If your decorative container is higher or has a pedestal
your silk floor plant can exceed the height as stated. The base stem is what is
molded that hold it all together. On artificial plants and bushes if it says it
22" long, it is including the thick base stem or base trunk that holds the
plant together. Most stems can be from 3" to 5 or 6" in length. So
the measured when it is fully extended. When we specify that a
plant is 37” Wide, we measure the plant with the leaves or stems extended to the sides.
PLEASE NOTE: Plant and tree heights are approximate. As they
are hand made, taller plants may vary a few inches in height. Floral Arrangement
measurements are more exact as these are pre-arranged and do not change shape
after being created. Leaf stem height would be the longest stem standing straight
up without bending it down. If you bend it down you will lose height but gain width. Please remember that all artificial silks travel to America from overseas and are
packed tight in their packages. They may appear crushed and wrinkled when
they arrive to you. But much like and cloth, they need air
out and smoothed out. We suggest that you place your new purchase upright in your
planter or vase, unfold the leaves and allow each plant to fully open
for a few days. You'll find that they become even more life like in a few days after shaping. You also can use a steamer if you have one for a quick fix.

Q:
2. Potting, Assembly and Shaping
Answers:
POTTING
Fill your container 3/4 full with floral foam or for trees with large diameter
trunks needing a heavier base use plaster of Paris. With floral foam, simply
push the bottom of the tree trunk or silk plant stem deep into the floral foam,
making sure it is straight. When using plaster of Paris, mix according to
instructions, then pour into non-decorative container, and let it “set up”
until you can insert your silk plant stem or tree trunk, and the semi-hardened
plaster will hold the plant or tree upright until completely hardened. Tap the
side of the container to ensure plaster is thoroughly up against the trunk/stem.
Once the silk plant is potted, insert your non-decorative container into your
decorative planter, crock, basket, etc.
ASSEMBLY
Your silk plants or silk tree may require some simple assembly. Most silk palm
trees come with fronds and a trunk with frond openings. As a general rule,
smaller fronds go towards the bottom and longer fronds go towards the top (Areca
Palm, Bamboo Palm, Kentia Palm, etc.) Some silk plants and trees, such as
Phoenix Palms, may have a single frond “head” which simply plugs into the
top of the tree trunk. You can always refer to the products picture at
silkspectacular.com
when assembling and shaping you product you purchased. Please refer to the
products page.
SHAPING
Directional shaping is the best method to maximize fullness and create a better
silhouette for your silk plants and trees. Start near the trunk or main stem and
work your way to the end of the frond or leaf gently bending as you go creating
a slight downward curve on the lower branches of the plant and a slight upward
curve on the top branches. Give your tree a fuller look by slightly staggering
the tips around the branch of you silk plants and trees. Again, referring to the
item picture will help in this process.

3. Why use Artificial Silks and About Silks
Answers:
About Silk's...
Lasting Beauty inside your Home
Nothing can warm a room in your home as
much as a silk plant or tree. Put one next to your husband's computer, your
vanity, on top of the kitchen cabinets, etc. Hang garland around a drapery rod.
You would be surprise what it can do to a room. Wrap it around bed poles or add
a green silk basket on the top shelf of a desk. Silks have an endless use and
beauty that will last a long time.
For the Office
Silks in a work environment are a great accent. It brings a little nature
inside with very little care. Add a small rose container on your secretary's
desk. That will cheer her up and make her desk look great. Add trees to a
conference room in each corner again to bring some nature and warmth
inside.
Cutting Stems for Flowers or Silk Bushes
Try not to cut a stem until you are positive it needs to be cut shorter.
It's always best to leave as much stem as possible. You can cut it shorter
later. Cut the stems on a slant, it makes it easier to stick in the styrofoam.
Don't glue them in until your sure where you want to put the stem (use a low
temp glue gun and glue sticks) . Silk greenery bushes add great accents to any
flower arrangement. It also adds softness and a natural look to it.
Where to use Silks
A tree in an empty corner of a room, a green swags
with a bow on the corner of a hanging mirror. On a vanity, conference table or
computer desk. Use silk garlands on a curtain rod or just around a window. Its
all up to your imagination.
Container Ideas
A good place to look for containers for silk
plants or flowers is from your own home. There are many items you can use.
Dinner or Party Plans
At your next dinner party, lay a single stem
flower on each guest's plate. Let them take the flower home at the end of the
evening. You can even bend the stem around the napkins or plate. I never put
potpourri on a dinner table. You don't want it to interfere with the taste of
the meal your serving.
Having a Guest stay Over... Or your a
Guest at someone else's home
Guests staying at your home will feel warmly
greeted if you add a silk plant on the bedside. Also, remember when going to
someone's home for dinner, bring a plant with a bright bow.
What Style of Plant to use in a Room
If your room is romantic, use soft greens, light
colored flowers. In Southwest rooms you can use desert cactus, bromeliads, dried
flowers and twigs. If you like a room more modern or neo-classic palms and
tropical are a great accent. If the room is more eclectic any item can work well
together.
To Weigh Down a Basket
Because silks are so light you might want to weigh
down the basket. Use gravel or rocks in a plastic bag at the bottom of the basket. This
keeps the gravel pr rocks from coming out of the sides of the basket.
Weigh Down a Tall Arrangement
If your arrangement is tall, weigh it down at the
bottom. Use small gravel or marbles. If your container is metal, marbles put in
a bag would be best as to not scratch the metal inside. These are my the best
choices.
If Your Vase Is Clear a good choice for filler to
hide floral foam or flower stems is marbles, seashells or colored sands.
Potpourri is colorful and you can choose scents to compliment your flowers. You
can even use colored gravels. Mixing Blooms
Flowers that bloom at the same time in nature will
look good together in an arrangement. Spring flower mixes would include lilies,
tulips, irises, roses, calla lilies and sweet peas. Fall flowers are mums,
marigolds, dahlias, zinnias and sunflowers.
About Silks
Silks have been made as far back as the ancient times in china. Silks have
become the popular choice for decorating due to its long lasting life.
Allergy problems
There is no fragrance to silks flowers. This is a good thing for people with
allergy problems. Some of the pre-made rubber or plastic trunks have very little
smell to them but goes away in time.
Why Silks are preferred....
With the improved technology in silks, it has become the preferred decorating
accessory for interior decorators, businesses and home use due to a very low
maintenance (just a light dusting or cleaning once in awhile).
